Update Local Schools to Prepare Students for the Future

Many local classrooms are over 50 years old and need repairs and updates to support safe and quality instruction. The District has completed a thorough assessment of each school to develop a comprehensive Facilities Master Plan for these improvements. A local funding source would allow updates to create accessible classrooms, renovate learning facilities and repair leaking roofs. Funding would also allow SCUSD to provide students with facilities for new academic STEAM programs and mental health resources.

A YES vote on Measure D is a vote to update local schools without increasing tax rates.

For 170 years, the Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) has been vital to our community's prosperity. Serving more than 40,000 students at 75 school sites, SCUSD provides a comprehensive and high-quality education to teach the critical skills our students need for future success.

Impact of Measure D

Repairs & Updates Without Increasing Tax Rates

Because the State does not provide dedicated funding for school facility improvements, SCUSD has developed a plan to fund updates needed at our local schools without increasing tax rates paid by local residents. The Board of Trustees has voted to place Measure D, a school improvement bond measure, on the November 2024 ballot. Measure D would provide $530 million in locally controlled funding at a tax rate below $35 per $100,000 of assessed property value.

Measure D would simply extend, but not increase, the current school bond rate to fund local school repairs and updates, including:

Mandatory Fiscal Accountability and Local Control

  • All funds would be controlled locally for SCUSD schools only and could not be taken away by the State

  • An independent citizens’ oversight committee, mandatory annual audits, and public disclosure of spending would ensure all funds are used for voter-approved projects only

  • None of the money raised could be used for administrators’ salaries or pensions
